Characteristics

• Desmodium incanum
• commonly known as creeping beggarweed
• perennial weed
• leaves are made up of three leaflets
• leaves are elliptic in shape and point at the tip
• flowers are rose to pink in color
• found in southeastern regions all the way to Texas
• germination will start in the spring and go into the summer depending on your location

Treatment

Selective 

• best time to apply these herbicides is during active growth (summer)
• predominately a southern weed so use herbicides that are safe for southern grasses
• look for products that contain triclopyr, MCPP, Dicamba and/or 2,4-D
• Make sure to properly identify your grass to make sure that the herbicide is safe for your lawn.  Choose your grass below to filter for products that are safe for your lawn:
• Bahia 
• Bent 
• Bermuda 
• Buffalo

• Kentucky Bluegrass

Non-Selective

• spot treat trouble areas
• only target unwanted vegetation
• look for products that contain chemicals such as glyphosate
