For Use In Outdoor trees, shrubs, and groundcovers in landscape plantings as listed.
Yield Foliar application : 1.5 tsp per gallon of water | Trees Drenching: 8-30 oz per gallon of water depending on the band width of the tree
Mixture May be used as a foliar application or drenching application
Application For best practice in drenching the soils around trees and shrubs, drench before insect damage occurs as a prevention practice. Use one soil treatment per year. Best time to apply is early spring to early fall. This product can be applied anytime except when the ground is saturated or frozen. These conditions will make movement of the product down into the root zone difficult. When applying this product during dry periods, generously water the tree or shrub the night before treatment.
Not Available for Purchase In Long Island, N.Y
More Instructions NOTE: For insect control, the insecticide must move throughout the tree or shrub. The time it takes to do this will depend on the size of the plant that is treated (one week to three months for very large trees). For this reason, soil drenches should occur 2-3 months before the expected pest infestation. Trees that are already heavily infested may not survive due to the existing pest damage and the resulting stress.

i have a 30 year old hemlock hedge. The trunks are 8"-12' in diameter. There are 18 of them. The trunks are about 3"- 4" apart. Do I drench each individual trunk? If not, suggested application?

    1. Ken M answers Apr 7, 2025

Yes, you should drench each trunk but I suspect at that distance apart, a line of soul down the length of the hedge on both side will provide enough to drench the soil between each bush.

  2. Mimi asks Nov 9, 2024

Can i use this drench on ornamental container plants that need to come inside for the winter? And what rate per size pot?

    1. Ken M answers Nov 11, 2024

No. None of the products containing imidacloprid as the active ingredient are approved for use on containerized plants. The only systemic insecticide that I know that is properly labeled for it is Safari 20 SG Insecticide.
mix 1.5-3.0 teaspoons per gallon and apply per pot at these rates:

  8. Terry Gulliver asks Jan 30, 2024

What is your active ingredient (chemical name please, not brand), and do you have bee/nematode/worm toxicity data?

    1. Ken M answers Jan 30, 2024

The active ingredient in Bonide Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control is imidacloprid. I don't know the effects on nematodes but we know that honey bees are negatively affected by it. Choosing to use it is usually based on the number of trees being treated and weighing the negative effects vs. the value of the trees.

Chances are it is from aphids or a similar pest. Using a product like this Bonide Annual Tree and Shrub Insect Control should be just the thing to eliminate them.

This is the first time I have used this product in liquid form. I am waiting to see if I get good results. I have used the granular form on some shrubs in the past and it was very effective.

    Quality

Our home is surrounded with lovely Hemlock trees, and we have been slowly watching them die off. This is our 3rd year of treating the trees, closet to our home, with Bonide Annual Tree & Shrub Insect Control, and we have finally noticed improvement and a large decrease in the white larvae that is found on the underside of the needles. I wish we could afford to treat the surround forest, but alas, this has already been an expensive undertaking, especially since my husband and I are retired. It takes time, but the Bonide does work. Takes weeks/months to determine effectiveness but I have spoken to Arborists who tell me it is the best product on the market.

    Quality

It is difficult to tell if this product is "working" since it takes such a long time for the time release of a systemic to work its way through large trees. However, I am quite confident in the Bonide product line and will be applying a second treatment of this product to my trees again in spring. I've rated the product so highly partially based upon my previous success with their other offerings, and because of the prompt service I received from DIY Pest Control. The company was out of gallons when I placed my order, but they quickly drop shipped quart sizes to me for no additional charge. This service and turn around helped me to get the product applied before the end of the season arrived. I would recommend this product and supplier to others. Show more
