Dermestid Food Attractant Lures

The Dermestid Food Attractant Lures are designed to attract adult and larval stages of various Dermestid beetle species, including several types of carpet beetles.

Effective Against:

The lures are effective against several important species for stored products and forensic contexts, such as the hide and larder beetle (Dermestes spp.), buffalo, furniture, and varied carpet beetle (Anthrenus spp.), black carpet beetle (Attagenus spp.), warehouse, cabinet, and khapra beetle (Trogoderma spp.), and the odd beetle (Thylodrias spp.).

Where Dermestid Beetles Are Found

Dermestid beetles can live in diverse environments but are typically found feeding on natural fibers, animal hair, skins, pet food, stored foods, dead insects, feathers, or pollen. They also inhabit animal carcasses and nests of wasps, bees, or birds and have even been found infesting violin cases, feeding on bow hair. Some of these beetles are significant in forensic entomology for their role in decomposing carcasses in criminal investigations.

Dermestid beetles are found globally, with about 1,000 species worldwide and over 100 in North America alone. A unique feature of Dermestid beetles is their ability to digest keratin, a protein found in wool, fur, and feathers—this trait is shared only with biting lice and the Tineidae family of clothes moths.

Packaging

Packaging: 10 lures per package must be put on a All Beetle Trap or other glue-type trap to catch the beetles. These lures are intended for use with an All Beetle Trap or any glue- type trap to effectively capture these insects.
