Trapping Tips for Live Animal Cages
Always test your new trap by springing it a couple of times to make sure it is working to your satisfaction. Many times trappers like to camouflage their traps; test the spring of the trap after you camouflage it. If the spring door is not closing fast enough, place small stones or weights on top of the door. This will help the door to close faster.
When you receive your new trap it will be clean and bright. Some animals prefer not to go into a brand new trap while others do not seem to mind. The trap will improve with age.
Prebait the trap by placing the bait in place keeping the doors open with a stick or wire. This will help encourage an animal to investigate come in for the bait. After you see that the bait has been disturbed, set the trap.
Camouflaging the trap with twigs and leaves will remove any new shine from the trap. Also, making the trap dirty with dirt and water would help take the shine out of the trap. This will remove the smell of the newness of the trap.
Always wear gloves when setting the trap to remove any human scent.
