Hide Beetles
Hide Beetles are from the family Dermestidae. The Dermestes can be commonly found in animal carcasses. The larvae of Dermestes often bore into wood or other materials near their infestation sites to pupate. The larvae will travel far from food source to pupate. They do not consume the material into which they burrow. These larvae may cause minor and major structural damage.
Hide Beetles as a scavenger feed on dead animals and protein-based items such as pet food, leather goods, feathers, bacon, and cheese. Their infestations can be sourced to rodent or bird carcasses, accumulation of dead insects or old bee nests.
