How to Control Carpenter Bees

Follow these steps for effective carpenter bee management:

1. Treat with Onslaught FastCap

• Mix at 1 oz per gallon of water.
• Apply to areas with existing or potential carpenter bee holes, including:
  • Siding, soffits, and overhangs
  • Decks, fences, and fascia boards
  • Window frames and other wooden structures
• Spray twice in spring, 3-4 weeks apart.
• For severe infestations (e.g., cedar and log structures), increase treatment frequency.

2. Apply D-Fense Dust

• Fill the JT Eaton Bellow Duster halfway with D-Fense Dust.
• Puff dust 2-3 times into each carpenter bee hole, ensuring it penetrates.
• Target entry points, including:
  • Shutters and trim boards
  • Gutters and soffits
  • Cracks and crevices in wood

3. Seal the Holes (Fall)

• Wait until fall to seal holes, allowing any eggs or adults to hatch and exit.
• Use a paintable sealant for a clean, finished look.

Onslaught Fastcap is a great all-around encapsulated insecticide. Onslaught Fastcap will make 8 gallons of finished solution at the strongest strength (recommended strength for carpenter bees). It is a long-lasting residual; it will stay in place for 2-3 months. The D-Fense Dust will last 6 months.

How To Kill Carpenter Bees

If you do have an active Carpenter bee & infestation, following these steps below would ensure success.

1. Mix the Onslaught Fastcap at 1 oz per gallon of water and spray the areas where carpenter bees are boring or have bored in the past. The goal here is to use a spray pattern that clings to the surface. This will leave a repellant residue on the surface, which will discourage the bees from drilling additional holes. Their holes are usually located on the underside of any wood surface, including siding, soffits, overhangs, decks, fence posts, fascia boards and window frames. We recommend spraying twice during the spring at intervals of 3-4 weeks. For severe infestations of carpenter bees on cedar and log structures, you may need to treat more frequently.
2. Next fill the bellow duster about halfway with D-fense dust and puff it into all accessible carpenter bee holes. Shake the duster vigorously and puff it 2 or 3 times into each hole. Holes that are too high to reach with the duster may have to be sprayed using the sprayer and the FenvaStar EcoCap. Setting the sprayer nozzle to a stream will allow it shoot much farther. Sometimes carpenter bee holes will be behind shutters, trim boards, gutters, etc. Dust or spray the area around their access point so that they have to crawl through some insecticide to get in or out.
3. We recommend waiting until the fall to seal the holes. Waiting until the fall, will give any surviving eggs or adults time to hatch and leave. Use a sealant that can be painted over. Always read and follow the label instructions.
