Characteristics

• Polygunum avicular
• summer annual broadleaf weed
• spreads by seed
• germinate in spring
• low-growing that forms a mat-like shape
• leave shapes vary in size
• leaves go from dark green to dull green as they age
• small white or yellow flowers at the leaf axis that bloom mid to late summer through the fall

Treatment

Selective 

• application is most effective during active growth
• active growth is during the summer months
• look for products that may contain triclopyr, MCPP, Dicamba and/or 2,4-D
• Make sure to properly identify your grass to make sure that the herbicide is safe for your lawn.  Choose your grass below to filter for products that are safe for your lawn:
• Bahia 
• Bent 
• Bermuda 
• Buffalo 
• Centipede
• Fescue
• Kentucky Bluegrass
• Rye
• Seashore Paspalum
• St. Augustine
• Zoysia

Non-Selective

• spot treat in trouble areas
• only treat the target weed and avoid wanted vegetation
• apply when there is active growth
