Characteristics

• Hydrocotyle umbellata
• commonly known as pennywort
• warm season perennial weed
• silver dollar shaped leaves
• leaves resemble miniature lily pads and are round and bright green
• leaves are 1-2” in diameter
• low growing
• the stem is located in the middle and is often confused with dichondra, which stem is located on the edge

Treatment

Selective 

• one of the more difficult to get rid of broadleaf weeds
• properly identify your grass and filter out products that are not safe for your lawn
• best results will occur during the summer months while there is active growth
• recommended chemicals include indaziflam, isoxaben, 3 ways (2,4-D, MCPP, and Dicamba), quinclorac, metulfuron-methyl and carfentrazone
• always read the label
